Authentic Mexican restaurants abound in the Oakland community. Local favorites include Restaurante Oaxaqueño, La Casita Mexican Restaurant, Taqueria El Coyote, and Los Magueyes Pastelleria Mexi. The strong Mexican heritage present in the Oakland community is especially on display during the summer months when the local Catholic church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, holds its annual fundraiser, Fiesta Mexicana. This is one of Topeka’s largest cultural festivals and draws in visitors from all over the country to celebrate Mexican food, music, dance and culture.
Another hub of diverse cultural heritage in Topeka that lays claim to a beloved local eatery is Little Russia. Located in North Topeka, this sleepy neighborhood is home to CW Porubsky’s Grocery and Deli, a hole-in-thewall that is best known for its large deli sandwiches, spicy pickles and superb chili.
