Hello, everyone.

Thank you again to those of you who were able to join us on March 29. As a reminder, our next meeting will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28 at the Visit Topeka conference room (618 B S. Kansas Ave.). What follows is a lengthy but useful recap, including the events list and field trip resources we discussed.

A few things we want to be sure you remember:
1. National Travel and Tourism Week is May 7-13. The Thursday of that week will be the Know Your City training. If you or members of your staff are interested, please reach out to Rosa Cavazos at Visit Topeka. Space is limited for this free training opportunity.

2. The Junior Olympics are coming July 24 to 30. Let’s keep the conversation going by email about things we can do to make the thousands of athletes and their families feel welcome in our community. Please, reach out to us with any special events or promotions you’d like to offer, or to brainstorm opportunities. Reminder: A majority of the participants are African American, about 2/3 are coming as part of a team and more than half are from Southern states. Nearly all are traveling with immediate and/or extended family as vacationers.

Here are some of the field trip related resources that Rosemary shared during the meeting:

This is the main academic standards website:

Science Standards:

Kansas Standards for History Government and Social Studies:

Kansas Math Standards:

Kansas English Language Arts:

Common Core Standards:

If you click on Standards in your State and then click on Kansas, it takes you to the KSDE website. This gives you a good, easy breakdown of the language arts and math standards that are universal no matter where you are (unless you’re in a state that didn’t adopt standards).

Websites that are worksheet generators. Rosemary is working on some general Topeka worksheets now.

Please keep us in the loop about the school groups you’re hosting and if you need help advancing your efforts, Rosemary’s email is We are putting some finishing touches on our resource site:

The events list we breezed through: Remember, some of these are listed as the actual event date and some represent check-in and check-out dates for groups. If you have questions about the demographics for these events, please reach out to Mike Bell, V.P. of Sales,
