A Seat At The Table Series
When someone offers you A Seat At the Table, it usually demonstrates a sign of power and influence. It indicates that individual has the ability to effect change, the power to make decisions and to courage to plot a course. As a leader in this community, the Greater Topeka Partnership would like to invite you to be a Host for A Seat the Table. Imagine intimate evening of open and honest dialogue about our community. The goal is to educate and connect with a diverse group of Shawnee County citizens; consider where were are now and where we want to be as a community. We live in a time of transition where everything is in flux. Our hope is that these dinners will build a solid foundation where we begin to understand one another, appreciate each other’s differences, and discover our similarities.
Conversations will center around racial equity and equality, inclusion, and social justice or current events of the day. We believe that once barriers are removed, we can eliminate the disparities that hinder our growth as a community. We also believe that this platform will allow everyone to learn, contribute and understand their role as we build a more inclusive community.
As a Host, you can invite 7-10 guests to join you for lunch or dinner for, 2-3-hour experience, once a month for at least 3 months. The group will be diverse. Staff has a list of potential attendees and will gladly help you identify participants. We will also provide a trained facilitator and a scribe to take notes to be shared at future meetings. You may meet in person or by Zoom. If you meet by Zoom, staff will schedule it for you. The first lunch or dinner will be a “getting to know you” meeting. At future meetings you will have open discussions. Dates are available dinner or lunch dates to choose from in November through February. The suggested time for the dinner is 5:30 – 7:30 PM or lunch is 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.
In the Spring 2021, the Partnership will host “The Longest Table,” a culmination of the dinners and luncheons where we bring the entire community together on Kansas Avenue. As we focus on building a culture of inclusion and becoming a world class community, I look forward to your involvement and collaboration as you invite other to have A Seat At the Table.
